So the blue paint was exactly what I was wanting and I think it turned out super cute. I also moved in the little wood shed yesterday from a different part of the ranch. I found the cool old signs laying around.
This project has been going on for 5 years. Ever since I went to my first AA meeting in Jackson at someone’s bonfire and chill and I found the solution to my problem I have been wanting to share that experience with others.
When I was desperate to quit drinking I didn’t want to go to AA. It just seemed so weird. I didn’t want to sit in a basement with old dudes drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes ( that’s what I thought happened there). So when I heard about a campfire meeting in Jackson I gave it a try. It only took one meeting to realize I had found my people. I LOVE recovery and every meeting in every place is so cool to me now. It really is . But I know coming to your first meeting is really hard so I wanted to create a welcoming place where it’s not so “weird” .
I dug a fire pit 5 years ago (first picture) then got knocked up with 2 babiesand got pretty busy. I got back at it this summer and I will host my first bonfire and chill meeting next Saturday night and hopefully every Saturday night for the rest of my life. If I can help one desperate soul find the happiness I’ve found it’s worth it! Plus I get to enjoy this place everyday. Life is good.
I’m often asked “how are you doing, sorry to hear about your son Lucas and his passing” well Part 3 of my amazing weekend came to me personally as a black and gold butterfly so beautiful it HAD to be my Lucas. He wore his HAWKEYE jersey to let me know it was him and that he was so happy and free. He shared hours with us flying around our bonfire and chill even as I watched him glide dip and turn on multiple occasions it decided to sit down with me face to face, landing only 2-3 feet in front of my chair. It certainly smiled in a Lucas kind of way and let me snap about 100 photos of him as if to speak to me as he danced the sky showing me his moves.
I cried a happy cry and smile as he spread its wings wide to show me his Hawkeye heavenly gear and took off quick as he glided, turned and looped using the warm breeze under his wings to lift him higher as he floated pain -free. My mind raced with him as Cool chill came from nowhere on a 90 degree day and I whispered to him “Be free #34”….thanks so much for making my day baby boy, thanks for saying Hi Dad look at me Go NOW!
It’s because of moments like this that help keep me grounded and place his legacy into the proper perspective. I’m so full of joy and happiness to see you relaxing and simply Being U. Keep laughing and smiling kiddo.. Dad is so proud of you.
Rey and I went on a camping trip to Omachi on Sunday, while mum was away in Osaka doing teacher training. We stayed at POW WOW by Kizakiko after checking out another campsite by Aokiko. The vibe at POW WOW was really friendly bonfire and chill. Nobody was in a hurry, and you felt you could chat with other campers. There were only a few people there, so we got a great spot. To be honest they were all great spots. Each lot had its own stone campfire so you could BBQ right by your tent. The bungalows also had an outdoor space with a bonfire and chill. Each bungalow was made from various parts from other houses, rebuilt. They looked like different individual units made by the same guy. Grassy paths lined with the wild flowers criss crossed the campsite connecting everyone to everyone else, and to the lake shore. There was gear on loan which you could use right until closing time even after you checked out (12am). There were 2 teepees, pizza oven, sinks here and there, a boat house, garbage bins (we took ours home), toilet (bit smelly), the office and free parking. Good rates, but bring your own grill. The next day Rey and I played his board game “Ships to Rolling” after breakfast. Then we swam for a long time, but just the once. The clouds made it chilly… great summer spot if you are not swimming, right? We packed and checked out the big campsite down the road on our way south to Omachi. Had lunch at Wachigai. Rey slept all the way home, then some more. I’m beat!
